Micah Woods established the Asian Turfgrass Center in 2006 to develop and provide turfgrass information for the golf and sports turf industry in Asia. Since then, his work at the ATC research facility in Thailand, his cooperation with the Thai Golf Course Superintendents Association to put on the Sustainable Turfgrass Management in Asia Conference for a decade, along with his practical research into better ways to manage grass has led to international recognition of ATC.

Introduced to the world of golf at a young age by a golf professional father and inspired by his early work at courses as diverse as the Augusta National Golf Club, Desert Mountain Golf Club, and Shanghai Links Golf and Country Club, Micah earned a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Cornell University before beginning extensive research and travels around the world as an invited speaker for events and organizations such as the Asia Pacific Golf Summit, the Australian Turfgrass Conference, the European Turfgrass Society, and the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America. All in all, his work as a consultant, researcher, and speaker has taken him to more than 30 countries on five continents.

Indeed, the scope of Micah’s research is global. Through the ATC, he provides turfgrass advisory and soil testing services not only to golf clubs and sports facilities in Asia, but to select clients around the world. Since 2009, he has been an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Tennessee. His collaboration with PACE Turf to develop the MLSN nutrient guidelines for turfgrass led to rapid worldwide adoption of a method that is quickly becoming the industry standard. Although Micah is well known as a scientist and is in demand as a speaker and consultant, anyone who plays golf with him can attest to the fact that he is perhaps most famous for his birdie dance.

In fact, Micah remains well grounded in the practical aspects of the golf game and his writing has been praised for its accessible style. Author of over two hundred articles in publications such as GOLF Magazine and Soil Science as well as books with intriguing titles like One Bucket at a Time and 芝草科学とグリーンキーピング: マイカの時間 The BOOK, Micah enjoys spending time creating animated charts and graphs of the data he has collected while discovering unexpected statistics.
