I see a lot of grass in driveways, parks, lawns, and fields when I run around southern Thailand. And because I can’t run very fast, and I happen to be curious about grasses, I get a pretty good look at what is growing.

You’ve seen the Global DLI app that uses satellite data from the NASA POWER Agroclimatology dataset to show a summary of photosynthetically active radiation—expressed as the daily light integral, or DLI—for the past year at any location.

I’m never quite sure what topics people will read. Sometimes topics that I think people will read end up with few pageviews. That’s often because the topic is not very interesting.

Perspective. It’s funny how that works. When I first read this research report in 2011, I skimmed over some parts, and cherry-picked what I was looking for — that 15 to 20% surface area removal was required every year in order to keep soil organic matter under control.

In the last ATC update newsletter I included a survey about future video topics. These are the results. Thanks to everyone for the feedback! A topic that has been on my mind and that I want to explain further is N fertilizer and ClipVol.

I’ve repeated an analysis of tweets and accounts from another year in the turf industry. Last week I shared some overall results and category-specific rankings. The searchable Turfgrass Twitter 2020 Shiny app has all the results.
