Someone asked me that question while we were working at a golf tournament. The best way depends on just how much info you want, how often you want to hear from me, and the type of information you prefer to get.

I gave this presentation as part of the session on “Precision Turf and Ornamental Disease Management in the 21st Century” at the International Congress of Plant Pathology in July.

On August 23 at 4 a.m., Andrew McDaniel and I walked into a 7-11 in Fukuoka to get the latest issue of Weekly Golf Digest. Golf magazines in Japan are pretty amazing to begin with.

Regular readers of this blog will be familar with some previous attempts to estimate the N mineralization in turfgrass soils. There was this from 2010, which I wrote about in 2015 saying “I wouldn’t explain it this way again.

Grant Saunders asked a series of questions about the quantity of nutrients required in the soil, using calcium as an example. One can see that full discussion here. When he asked this question, I thought the clearest way to answer it would be with a blog post.

Last week I was in California for the U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach. I was running on a trail in the Del Monte Forest on Saturday when I came to an open area called The Meadow.

It’s always a good idea to know what the soil temperature is. One can measure it, or one can be confident that the average daily soil temperature close to the surface (5 cm, or 2 inch depth) is higher than the daily low temperature, and lower than the daily high temperature.

When I was at Keya GC last month for the Japan Amateur Championship, it rained a lot. From June 29 to July 8, there was precipitation every day, and the total was 446 mm, or 17.
